The active ingredient is a neutralized fatty amine acetate salt having a straw colour and slight ammonia – vinegar odour. It is a liquid having a specific gravity of 1.01 and pH in the range 6.0 – 7.5.
CHEMCIDE is used as a preservative to prevent fermentation of drilling mud additives such as starch or xanthan gum in fresh or slightly saline, low pH environments.
The suggested treatment for well completion, work-over and stimulation fluids to control algae, slime forming and sulphate reducing bacteria is dosage levels of up to 1500 ppm in normal situations and up to 3000 ppm for severe contamination. In packer fluids, doses up to 300 ppm are recommended. New volume entering the system can be treated at a lower concentration of 150 to 500 ppm. In situations where drilling is prolonged a periodic slug treatment may be advisable to maintain a bacteria free system.
Premix tanks can be particularly susceptible to bacterial contamination when used to mix organic products.
